HELLO!!!!

Hello Everyone!

My name is Matthew - affectionately known to some as MattyB. This is my blog.

Let me explain: a lot of things have happened recently. We moved into a new flat, my partner, Jon has diagnosed with cancer and my dad has had continual health problems. It's been pretty stressful to say the least.

Don't worry - This blog will not be full of doom and gloom. 

Me and Hollywood!!!

During this time I started baking. Yes, I got caught up in the whole Great British Bake Off boom but it turned into something else. I found that it was relaxing just to forget the worries of the week/month/year and just lose myself in the kitchen. Afterwards not only did the flat smell amazing but I also got to eat a gorgeous cake and then share this with my family and friends. It was a piece of happiness that kept me sane in those bad times.



 People started telling me I was quite good. My confidence grew and I started trying new and different recipes; tarts, cookies, pies. I was learning more and it was great to learn all these new techniques. People encouraged me to enter competitions. For one I even get as far as to bake for Paul Hollywood at the Liverpool Food and Drink Festival. I didn't win (dodgy scones) but it was certainly a highlight for me and encouraged me to keep pushing and trying to get better with my baking.




I started reading more and more cookbooks. Gaining more knowledge, learning the best techniques and seeing bakes I'd never seen before and giving them a go. Then I discovered Twitter. It was like another world. There were other people on there who loved food, a massive community all sharing recipes, tips and pictures. I got involved. Joining foodie chats and making lots of new online buddies. Then I saw some of them had blogs and I thought "I can do that". So here I am!


There will be no over riding theme to this blog. It'll just be about my adventures with food (mostly cake)! I'll take about what I've made, my inspirations, my disasters and anything else foodie related that pops into my head. Maybe people will read it. Maybe they won't, but I'm hoping my sharing my stories and recipes that maybe someone out there will also be inspired to start baking and maybe it will help them through a tough time they're having.
