This is a delightfully simple recipe for rustling up a cold tomato salsa which is weirdly cooling yet has a yummy spicy aftertaste that just works! Its an old Mauritian favorite called "Satchini Pomme D'Amour" and is great for serving alongside a curry dish or for dipping in roti and tortilla chips. Whats more, it's super fresh and so quick to make that there will be no need for you ever buy a ready made tomato dip ever again. All you need are tomatoes, chili, onion, garlic, coriander, oil and a good old blender and in five minutes you can in salsa heaven!
Cool And Spicy Tomato Salsa
5 Medium Tomatoes, Cut Into Quarters
1 Chopped Medium Onion
1 Grated Garlic Clove
1 Handfull Fresh Corriander Stalks
2 Medium Red Chilis
1 Tbsp Vegetable Oil
- Place all the ingredients into a blender and blend until well combined and to the consistency of your choice. I like some chunks but you can blend it until smooth if you wish.
Yup, it really is that simple. Take straight to the table, garnish with a few coriander leaves if you have any left over and pile up the roti ready for dipping and you are good to go. Initially you will get a cool tomato taste hitting your tongue which will soon be replace with a good old kick of chili. You can add in more chili if you like it hotter, more coriander stalks if you want more of a herby punch or more onion/tomato if you wish to cool it down more. I love dishes like this. It just goes to show how you can make fresher tastier version of classic favorites. Give this recipe a go and trust me when I say you will never go pack to pre made tomotao dips ever again.
