Released on October 20th, The Liverpool Cook Book brings together the very best of the city’s burgeoning food and drink scene; from a fantastic array of independent
restaurants, to cafés, pubs, delis, producers and suppliers. The book is the 16th in the series of regional ‘Get Stuck In’ guides by Meze Publishing, who were recently crowned Best Newcomer at the Independent Publishing Awards and I'm very excited to be able to offer you all chance to win your very own copy of this fabulous book:
Liverpool is the home city of two of the biggest influencers in Liverpool’s contemporary food scene, Michelin-starred chef Marc Wilkinson and North West Food Champion Paul Askew, who has written the book’s foreword, expressing pride and passion for the potential of this foodie hub:
“One can witness in these pages the culinary voices that make Merseyside a tourist destination of choice and a melting pot of creativity and individuality. It is a real a pleasure to be involved in this with Fraiche,” says Marc Wilkinson, who has shared the recipe for his beautiful rosemary-inspired dessert in the book.
Talented chef Paul Askew has also offered three of The Art School’s delicious recipes for the book – loin and confit of Lake District rabbit, fillet of Peterhead hake, and Seville orange and Ocumare dark chocolate truffle torte - edible encouragement for readers to dig out their aprons!
“Liverpool is in the midst of a gastronomic revolution and this book captures many of the great recipes that are delighting our cities diners."
"After many years in the kitchen there is still no greater pleasure than seeing the satisfaction on people’s faces enjoying the food they are served. The opportunity for readers of the book to recreate some of their favourite restaurant dishes in the comfort of their own home is a fantastic idea!,” says Paul.
The Liverpool Cook Book strives to capture and promote the region’s vibrant, diverse approach to catering, with each chapter focusing on creative, delicious yet unique food, and the stories behind each foodie business.
You will find entries from an extensive range of unique venues such as The Secret Diners Club and underground cocktail bar Maya, award-winning eateries such as Delifonseca who were given the prestigious Taste Liverpool accolade at the Liverpool City Region Tourism Awards for four consecutive years, all the way to traditional delicatessens including Maggie Mays and The Baltic Fleet; it’s clear that Liverpool is all-encompassing when it comes to food.
Panoramic 34 who recently featured on BBC2’s Bake Off: Crème de le Crème likewise contributes to The Liverpool Cook Book. Here chief executive Cathy Frost praises the prosperity of the county’s independent food scene, being one of the many who excitedly awaits the book’s release:
“I'm proud to be part of the Liverpool Cook Book and to showcase a little of Panoramic's offerings. Liverpool is becoming the place to go for great food and we are happy to be part of this foodie revolution.”
A plethora of cuisines are represented in this book – from classic Italian, French and Spanish fare to the more further afield tastes of Mexico, Cuba, Peru, Lebanon and Morocco. Anne-Louise, director of French patisseries Artisane and French Corner said: “Having recently opened Artisane, we are extremely excited to be a part of the Liverpool Cook Book. The book is full of iconic chefs and places to eat in Liverpool, so to be amongst them is a real privilege. “Liverpool is a force to be reckoned with on the culinary scene now and we can’t wait to showcase this magnificent book to our customers.”
And to complement these delicious delicacies, The Liverpool Cook Book also serves its readers a broad spectrum of drink inspiration. Shake up a cocktail or two with Liverpool Gin’s chilled concoctions, read about Liverpool Organic Brewery’s handcrafted beers and discover some new tipples with independent wine merchant R&H Fine Wines’ unmissable guide of wine recommendations.
With amazing recipes, dedicated suppliers and an abundance of passionate chefs, bakers, producers and suppliers, it is clear that the people of Liverpool really have something to shout about. The Liverpool Cook Book retails at just £14.95 and will be available in all of the businesses featured in the book.
